NFL Rumors: 2 Teams Attempted Trade For Matthew Judon

The Chicago Bears and Houston Texans were both highly interested in acquiring linebacker Matthew Judon before the New England Patriots ultimately traded the four-time Pro Bowler to the Atlanta Falcons.

Judon, who recorded 28 sacks over the 2021 and 2022 seasons, had established himself as one of the league's premier pass rushers, making him a coveted target despite a biceps injury that limited him to just four games in the previous season.

The Texans also made a brief but serious inquiry into Judon's availability. Fresh off an AFC Divisional round appearance and having recently added key pieces like Stefon Diggs and Danielle Hunter, Houston saw Judon as a critical addition to an already improving defense.

The Bears, in particular, were aggressive in their pursuit, reportedly offering a third-round pick, which matched Atlanta's bid, with the hope of pairing Judon with Montez Sweat to create a formidable pass-rushing duo.

The potential of forming a pass-rushing trio with Judon, Hunter, and rising star Will Anderson Jr. was highly appealing, as it would have significantly bolstered their ability to pressure opposing quarterbacks and disrupt offenses across the league.
