NFL Rumors: 2 More Key Cowboys Players "Not Close" On Contract Extensions

Despite securing star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb with a four-year, $136 million extension, the Dallas Cowboys remain far from finalizing new contracts for two of their other key players: quarterback Dak Prescott and linebacker Micah Parsons.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Cowboys are "not even close" to reaching agreements with Prescott or Parsons, signaling a lack of urgency from the team's front office.

While Lamb's deal brings some stability to the Cowboys' offense, it also shows the pressing need to address the futures of Prescott and Parsons, both of whom are crucial to the team's success.

Prescott's situation is particularly concerning, as he is set to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2024 season.

Having led the league with 36 touchdowns and finishing third in passing yards last year, Prescott is expected to seek a substantial raise, potentially exceeding the recent $50 million annual salaries of quarterbacks like Trevor Lawrence and Tua Tagovailoa.

The longer the Cowboys wait, the more leverage Prescott could gain, especially with the possibility of entering free agency next offseason, where he would undoubtedly be one of the most sought-after players.

Meanwhile, Micah Parsons, under contract through 2025, gives the Cowboys slightly more time, but the urgency is still high as he continues to perform at an elite level.

Coming off a career-high 14-sack season in 2023, Parsons is positioned to command a deal that could surpass the $30 million annual salaries of top edge rushers like Nick Bosa and TJ Watt.

Although neither Prescott nor Parsons appears poised for a holdout, the Cowboys' front office faces significant pressure to secure long-term deals for these franchise cornerstones before time runs out.
