Chiefs Bring Back Familiar Name After Release By Patriots

The Kansas City Chiefs have re-signed wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, reuniting with a player who was instrumental in their 2022 Super Bowl victory.

During his first season with the Chiefs, Smith-Schuster emerged as a key offensive weapon, recording 78 catches for 933 yards and three touchdowns.

His contributions were second only to Travis Kelce, and he played a significant role in the Chiefs' Super Bowl win over the Philadelphia Eagles, where he added seven catches for 53 yards.

After the 2022 season, Smith-Schuster signed a three-year, $33 million contract with the New England Patriots. However, his time in New England was less impactful, as injuries and inconsistency limited him to just 29 receptions for 260 yards and one touchdown in 11 games.

Released by the Patriots earlier this month, Smith-Schuster now returns to Kansas City, where his familiarity with the team and the offensive system is expected to provide immediate value.

Smith-Schuster's return comes at a crucial time for the Chiefs, who are dealing with uncertainty in their wide receiver corps.

With Marquise "Hollywood" Brown sidelined by a shoulder injury and legal issues affecting rookie Rashee Rice, Smith-Schuster's veteran presence offers some stability.
