BREAKING: Falcons Sign Free Agent Star Safety
The Atlanta Falcons have made another huge defensive upgrade by signing former Denver Broncos All-Pro safety Justin Simmons to a one-year, $8 million contract, with $7.5 million fully guaranteed.
Simmons, one of the NFL's most productive safeties since entering the league in 2016, brings an impressive resume to Atlanta, including 30 interceptions—more than any other player during that span.
His decision to join the Falcons, after also visiting the New Orleans Saints, shows his belief in the team's direction and potential, particularly given their active efforts to bolster the defense for the upcoming season.

Simmons' arrival is part of a strategy by the Falcons to build a formidable defense capable of competing for the NFC South title. Just a day before signing Simmons, Atlanta acquired star pass-rusher Matthew Judon from the New England Patriots, further strengthening their defensive front.
With Simmons anchoring a secondary that already features standout safety Jessie Bates III, and with key additions like defensive tackle David Onyemata and linebacker Kaden Elliss, the Falcons are positioning themselves as serious contenders in the division.

For Simmons, the move to Atlanta offers a fresh start and the opportunity to make the playoffs for the first time in his career.
Despite the Denver Broncos' recent struggles, Simmons remained a consistent force on defense, earning multiple Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors.
Now, as he joins a revamped Falcons defense, Simmons will look to continue his stellar career while helping lead Atlanta to postseason success and their first division title since 2016.
