9-Year Veteran Defensive Player Announces Retirement

Nine-year NFL veteran and standout outside linebacker Markus Golden has officially announced his retirement from professional football.

Drafted in the second round by the Arizona Cardinals in 2015, Golden quickly made a name for himself as a formidable pass rusher, recording three seasons with double-digit sacks, including a career-high 12.5 sacks in 2016.

His journey through the NFL also saw him play for the New York Giants, where he posted a 10-sack season in 2019, and the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he wrapped up his career in 2023.

After suffering a torn ACL in 2017, he made a remarkable comeback with the Giants, proving his worth as a top-tier defensive player.

Traded back to Arizona in 2020, Golden described the move as one that "saved his career," and he continued to deliver strong performances, including an 11-sack season in 2021.

Known for his relentless work ethic and leadership, Golden was a key presence both on and off the field, mentoring younger teammates and earning respect throughout the league.

In announcing his retirement on Instagram, Golden expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to live out his childhood dreams through football.

He leaves behind a legacy of perseverance, passion, and significant contributions to the teams he played for, totaling 51 sacks, 343 tackles, and 11 forced fumbles across 127 games.
