NFL Trade Rumors: Tennessee Titans Sign All-Pro Safety Jamal Adams
The Tennessee Titans are taking a flier on a one-time superstar. The team announced the signing of former Seattle Seahawks and New York Jets safety Jamal Adams to a one-year deal.
Adams initially burst onto the scene as the Jets' sixth overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. He quickly established himself as a star due to his crunching play in the box and his ability as a blitzer. Over his first three seasons in the league, he compiled 12 sacks and 210 tackles, earning a pair of Pro Bowls and even a first-team All-Pro.Adding All-Pro + Pro Bowl talent to the roster ✍️ pic.twitter.com/SJPBDxTYbD

Adams was such a hot commodity that the Seahawks traded multiple first-round picks to the Jets to acquire him following the 2019 season. They eventually signed him to a massive four-year, $70.58 million contract during the 2021 offseason, making him the league's highest-paid safety at the time.
Unfortunately, injuries have caught up with Adams. In his last four seasons with the Seahawks, he's been held to only 34 games, including a mere 10 since 2022. The Seahawks released him earlier this offseason, clearing $6 million in cap space.
When available, Adams has always been an exciting and novel player, and his signing is a sure sign that the Titans intend to compete in the AFC South this season with promising second-year quarterback Will Levis starting. Levis won three of nine starts in his rookie season, and the Titans reportedly believe he could be their franchise quarterback of the future.
Given that the terms of Adams' one-year contract have yet to be disclosed, it's likely the Titans signed him on a bargain-rate, prove-it type of deal. Still, if the Titans considered themselves in the early stages of a rebuild, they'd probably be content saving Adams' roster spot for a younger player with more long-term upside. Even at a low price, Adams is only a worthy gamble for a team that hopes to win now.
