Ogbah could fill much-needed pass rush void after Shaq Barrett retirement. He was productive in limited 2023 Dolphins role (5.5 sacks in 25% of snaps). Could do more under new DC Anthony Weaver.
The Dolphins have a major need at edge rusher following the surprising retirement of Shaquil Barrett yesterday. The two-time Pro Bowler signed a one-year, $7 million deal with the Dolphins in March and was expected to play a key role in their defensive line rotation. He notched 4.5 sacks on 652 snaps with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last year.
Ogbah played for the Dolphins in various capacities from 2020 to 2023 but was released earlier this offseason in order to spare $13.7 million in cap space. He managed a respectable 5.5 sacks last season on a mere 246 snaps and is set to turn 31 in November.
Ogbah should be capable of offsetting Barrett's loss: He's younger and was arguably more effective per snap in 2023. If the Dolphins can land him on a similarly affordable (or cheaper) one-year deal, Ogbah would be an ideal signing. He's already familiar with the organization and should have no issues picking up where he left off last year.
