NFL Trade Rumors: Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Dontayvion Wicks Pegged for "Monster Year"

The Green Bay Packers have a young, deep receiving corps, but there's one player that's apparently worthy of special consideration. Speaking with Bleacher Report, Packers quarterback Jordan Love took the time to single out wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks, suggesting the second-year pass catcher is going to have "a monster year."

Wicks, a fifth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, got off to a hot start as a rookie, amassing 581 receiving yards and four touchdowns over 15 appearances during the regular season. More importantly, he averaged an excellent 10.0 yards per target and a 115.7 passer rating on throws in his direction.

The Packers offense exceeded all expectations last season, riding Love's debut as the team's new starter to a 9-8 record, 22.5 points per game, and a Divisional Round appearance. If the Packers are going to build on their success, they'll need at least one of their young players to develop into a top-shelf player.

Luckily for the Packers, they have plenty of candidates. Wicks will compete with Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, and Romeo Doubs for targets this upcoming season. All four players are entering their second or third year as pros, and all four have already cleared 500 receiving yards in a single season.

At 23, Wicks is the youngest of that quartet, and he sports a sturdy frame (6'1", 206 lbs) and verticality (4.62 40-yard dash, 39" vertical leap) that lends itself to the WR1 role in the Packers offense. Notably, his physical profile resembles that of former Packers great Davante Adams. Most importantly, Love has clearly emotionally invested in him. That alone makes Wicks a player worth keeping an eye on.
