Per ESPN, a Lamborghini and Corvette were speeding on a Dallas highway on Saturday, March 30th. They lost control, causing a chain reaction of collisions that involved four other cars. Rice is confirmed to be the driver of the Lamborghini. The occupants of the Lamborghini and Corvette allegedly left the scene without sharing information or checking for injuries. Two drivers were treated for injuries at the crash site, while two other people were taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.
According to Rice's arrest warrant, he is facing charges including six counts of collision involving bodily injury, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury, and one count of aggravated assault. He will have one day to turn himself in.
Rice's lawyer previously stated that Rice intends to cooperate fully with the Dallas police. We're a long way from finding out whether or not he'll actually face any jail time, but depending on how quickly the legal process plays out, it appears increasingly likely he'll at least face a suspension from the NFL.
Any impediment to Rice's availability or development would be an absolute disaster for the Chiefs. Rice was a rookie revelation for the Super Bowl champions in 2023, leading all Chiefs wide receivers in receptions (79), receiving yards (938), and receiving touchdowns (7). He is without question one of their most valuable young players, and his progress as a pass catcher is their best hope for improving on a relatively middling offensive performance through the 2023 regular season (21.8 points per game, 15th in the league). Hopefully, for his sake and the Chiefs, this incident doesn't derail his promising career.
