Report: Chicago Bears Sign Newly Acquired Player To Massive Extension
Many were perplexed when the Chicago Bears moved a second round pick to land Montez Sweat of the Washington Commanders, especially given he is a pending free agent without an extension already in place.
Despite the criticism sent the way of the Bears, they showed optimism in locking up the 27-year old to a long-term extension, and today, they did just that, announcing that Swear agreed to a four-year deal worth $98 million, with over $72 million of that guaranteed.
This is a great deal for Sweat, but for the Bears, it raises questions over how they're spending their money, as Sweat never had double-digit sacks in a season thus far in his career, but this is a team that needs talented bodies, so it makes sense that they may have to over pay in order to push their rebuild back into the playoffs.New #Bears edge Montez Sweat has agreed to a massive 4-year extension worth $98M in new money — $24.5M average per year. He gets $72,865,360 guaranteed with the total deal being worth $105M.
