Top 3 Free Agent Running Backs Remaining

With 99 days until the 2023-24 season kickoff, there are still plenty of good names remaining on the open market.

Any teams needy of some running back help have some quality options to choose from in free agency.

The top three free agent running backs remaining:

Ezekiel Elliott

Yes he had a down season last year, however, Elliott is still a capable running back, maybe no longer an RB1, but he'd be a very nice addition to a team looking for an RB2. He still has touchdown-scoring abilities, evident by his 12 scores last season with the Dallas Cowboys. As a result, the veteran would be a great complementary back to a team in need and he should have no problem finding a new job by September.

Kareem Hunt

Interestingly enough, Kareem Hunt is actually the same age as Ezekiel Elliott (27), but he hasn't had nearly the same amount of usage year over year as Elliott has. As a result, teams could look to him to be their starting RB if they want. Hunt also had a bit of a down year last season, rushing for 468 yards on 123 carries, averaging a career-low 3.8 average yards per-carry, with three touchdowns. However, all the trade rumblings surrounding may have had something to do with that, as the 27-year-old has been a solid contributor his entire career, averaging a strong 4.5 yards-per-carry, with 4,025 total rushing yards and 31 touchdowns across 76 games in his career. He also has a strong receiving game, another bonus.

Leonard Fournette

Fournette entered last season as the starting RB for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, rookie Rachaad White slowly claimed that title with an impressive performance. As a result, that has made the 28-year-old expendable and he is now on the open market. Entering his seventh season, Fournette probably won't land a full-time RB1 role, however, he could fit well with a team splitting starting reps between two players. He should also be able to latch on with a new team by the start of the season.
