New England Patriots Sign 5-Year Veteran Tight End

The New England Patriots have made a recent acquisition by signing tight end Anthony Firkser, as reported by Mike Reiss of ESPN.com.

Although the specific details of the contract have not been disclosed, it is speculated to be a one-year deal at the league minimum.

Firkser, who spent the previous season with the Atlanta Falcons, primarily showcased his skills as a blocking tight end, managing nine receptions for 100 yards in 11 games.

Prior to his time with the Falcons, Firkser had a notable stint with the Tennessee Titans from 2020 to 2021. During this period, he proved himself as a reliable rotational player, amassing 73 receptions for 678 yards and three touchdowns.

However, despite his previous success, it is anticipated that Firkser will assume a less prominent role in New England's offensive scheme.

With the Patriots, Firkser will likely serve as a backup option behind the team's primary tight ends, Hunter Henry and Mike Gesicki. While he may not be a focal point of the offense, his experience and versatility provide valuable depth and support to the team.

As Firkser enters his sixth NFL season, his chances of securing a spot on the final roster in New England appear promising, particularly if the team opts to retain three or four tight ends. Photo Credit:  Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports
