Green Bay Packers Sign Free Agent Safety After Career Year

The Green Bay Packers have made a significant move to strengthen their safety position by signing Jonathan Owens, a veteran player with experience from the Houston Texans and Arizona Cardinals.

Owens, who recently tied the knot with renowned gymnast Simone Biles, brings valuable expertise to the team.

After entering the league as an undrafted free agent in 2018, Owens faced setbacks but gradually worked his way up, enjoying a breakout season in 2022 with the Texans, where he started in all 17 games, recording solid numbers with 125 combined tackles, four passes defended, and one sack.

His signing provides the Packers with a seasoned option to compete for a starting role and adds depth to their safety group.

With the addition of Owens, the Packers address their need for experience at the safety position, alongside promising talents like Darnell Savage and Anthony Johnson Jr.

His signing further strengthens the team's roster and brings valuable knowledge to the locker room. The Packers' move signifies their commitment to building a strong defensive unit for the upcoming 2023 season. Photo Credit: Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports
