Seattle Seahawks Reveal Safety Jamal Adams' Return Timeline

Things are apparently looking up for Seattle Seahawks safety Jamal Adams. Speaking at his pre-draft conference, head coach Pete Carroll suggested there was optimism the three-time Pro Bowler could be ready for training camp.

Adams suffered a devastating quadriceps tear in the first game of the 2022 season and missed the remainder of the year. He currently has three years left on a four-year, $70 million extension signed in 2021. At the time, it made him the highest-paid safety in the league.

An explosive box safety who can help in the run game and has a talent for blitzing (21.5 career sacks), Adams has been a divisive, controversial player since joining the Seahawks via a blockbuster trade in 2020. The Seahawks gave up two first-round picks and a third-round pick to the New York Jets in exchange for Adams and a fourth-round pick, but his struggles in coverage have created doubts about his actual value. He has only four interceptions in 71 career games and has allowed passer ratings of 104.7 and 93.8 on throws in his direction in his two healthy seasons with the Seahawks.

There may be some debate over how effective a player Adams truly is, but the Seahawks defense has nowhere to go but up. They were a mess in 2022 without him, ranking 25th in points allowed. With Adams in tow, they ranked 15th in points allowed in 2020 and 11th in 2021. If Adams' return can lift them back to mediocrity, the Seahawks will be happy to have him.
