Dowell originally joined the Saints practice squad on November 20, 2019, and continuously went from the practice squad to New Orleans active roster until the 2021-22 season where he appeared in 16 games.
The 26-year-old LB has also been a significant special teams contributor for the Saints in the past two seasons, recording 22 coverage stops, two forced fumbles, and one defensive tackle.
Last season Dowell played in all 17 games, and recorded seven tackles. He joined the NFL as an undrafted free agent by the Cowboys on May 1, 2019, but was shortly waived after an injury designation.
