NFL Rumors: Indianapolis Colts Don't Intend to Start QB Minshew
Clearly, the Indianapolis Colts don't believe their future at quarterback is currently on their roster. Speaking with the media on Monday, head coach Shane Steichen suggested free agent quarterback Gardner Minshew wouldn't be guaranteed starting opportunities in 2023.
Minshew served as backup quarterback for the Eagles in 2022, where Steichen worked as offensive coordinator. Minshew appeared in five games, starting two and losing both. He compiled 663 passing yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions.Colts HC Shane Steichen on if QB Gardner Minshew will start in 2023: "He's coming in to just compete"https://t.co/JLbRrfBbuu pic.twitter.com/jUyi39tybH

Minshew signed a one-year, $3.5 million deal to join the Colts this offseason, which is not a sum befitting a quarterback with a realistic chance to start. The Colts hold the fourth overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft and could be within striking distance of a young franchise passer. Unless that rookie suffers an injury or has a catastrophic preseason, it appears likely Minshew is destined for backup duties yet again.
