Detroit Lions Re-Sign Quarterback

The Detroit Lions have announced the re-signing of Nate Sudfeld as their backup quarterback for the upcoming 2023 NFL season.

Sudfeld had previously joined the team in late August 2021 after being released by the San Francisco 49ers. Last season, he appeared in just two games for the Lions, taking nine offensive snaps as he served as Jared Goff's backup.

The 29-year-old Sudfeld began his NFL career in 2016, drafted in the sixth round, and has since played in six games, completing 25-of-37 passes for 188 yards, with one touchdown and an interception.

The majority of his playing time came with the Philadelphia Eagles from 2017 to 2020.

Despite having Sudfeld and Goff on the roster, the Lions' general manager, Brad Holmes, has not ruled out drafting a quarterback in the upcoming 2023 NFL draft.

The team holds the sixth and 18th overall picks in the first round.
