Dallas Cowboys Star Running Back Signs Franchise Tag

Dallas Cowboys running back Tony Pollard signed his franchise tender on Thursday, guaranteeing him a one-year salary of $10.091 million for the 2023 season.

Pollard, who had been dealing with an ankle injury, is expected to be fully recovered in time for the mandatory portion of offseason workouts. He and the Cowboys have until July 17 to negotiate a long-term deal.

Pollard is set to be the team's primary running back for the 2023 season, following the departure of Ezekiel Elliott and the addition of Ronald Jones.

Pollard had a breakout 2022 season, rushing for 1,007 yards and nine touchdowns on 193 carries, while also adding 371 receiving yards and three touchdowns on 39 receptions.

However, Pollard suffered a leg break in the Cowboys' playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers, but underwent "tightrope" surgery to stabilize the ankle ten days later. He is expected to be fully recovered from his injury by late March.

Despite the injury, the Cowboys are counting on Pollard to build upon his breakout 2022 season and become a top running back in their offense. Photo Credit: Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY Sports
