Carolina Panthers Sign Star Linebacker To New Two-Year Deal
For the past few weeks, it was expected that the Carolina Panthers could part ways with standout linebacker Shaq Thompson ahead of free agency, but on Saturday, they officially brought him back on a reworked two-year deal.
The details of the two-year deal haven't been revealed yet, but he carried a cap hit of $24.4M heading into this week, so it's very likely that this new deal will see that cap hit reduced drastically, allowing one of the leaders of this defence to remain in Carolina.
Thompson has been with the Panthers since he was drafted in 2015 in the first-round, and while he's yet to step into the star realm that many have expected for years, he's a solid contributor to this team, so bringing him back at a reduced cap hit makes complete sense.Sources: #Panthers standout LB Shaq Thompson is expected to remain in Carolina on a reworked 2-year deal, as the team keeps one of its leaders.
