Mayfield is coming off a brutal season that ended fairly well with the Los Angeles Rams.
After being traded from the Cleveland Browns to the Carolina Panthers last summer, Mayfield appeared in just seven games with Carolina, posting a 57.8 completion percentage with six touchdowns and six interceptions, before he was cut.
The Rams then swiftly scooped Mayfield up.
In five games with the Rams, the 27-year-old posted a 63.6 completion percentage, 850 passing yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions, along with 37 rushing yards.
Sources: The #Bucs have a 1-year deal for QB Baker Mayfield for $8.5M, giving him the opportunity to battle for the starting spot with Kyle Trask. A marquee name off the market. pic.twitter.com/K1WgfRvV6D

The former first overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft earned praise from the Rams coaching staff and teammates for his passion and leadership and, as a result, drew plenty of attention this offseason.
Of course, it was a small sample size with the Rams and it's really a toss-up to see how he'll perform with the Bucs, but his track record doesn't help his cause.
Still, Mayfield will have talented receivers in Chris Godwin and Mike Evans around him in Tampa Bay.
I can confirm Bucs have agreed to a one-year deal with quarterback Baker Mayfield, as others have reported. $8.5 million, though I'm sure there will be void years to lessen the 2023 cap number.

He'll have to compete for the starting job with QB Kyle Trask first, of course, but Mayfield would seem to have the edge over Trask, who has nine career NFL pass attempts to his name.
Regardless, it's a low-risk addition by the Bucs and maybe Mayfield will finally breakout and show why he was a first-overall pick.
