BREAKING: Minnesota Vikings Re-Sign Talented Running Back
This makes things interesting.
The Minnesota Vikings have secured running back Alexander Mattison by signing him to a two-year, $7 million contract, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
This new deal for Mattison, who has been one of the league's top backup running backs, could have implications for the team's backfield structure moving forward.

Mattison has primarily served as a backup to star running back Dalvin Cook since joining the Vikings in 2019, but he has showcased his talent when given the opportunity.
Over his career, he has averaged 4.1 yards per carry and scored 14 touchdowns, while also proving to be a reliable receiving option with an 83.3% catch rate.

With rumors swirling about the Vikings potentially being open to trading Cook, Mattison's new contract suggests that the organization is preparing for any scenario.
Cook has drawn interest from multiple teams recently, and the cap-strapped Vikings might be more inclined to move him now that they have secured Mattison's services for the next two years.
If the Vikings do end up trading Cook, Mattison would be in line for a much more significant role in the Minnesota backfield.
However, as of now, a deal involving Cook still seems uncertain.
