Washington Commanders Not Guaranteed To Pick Up 5th Year Option Of Young Star
The Washington Commanders had an up and down 2022 season, but they showed progress on both sides of the ball, and if they can wrap up some of their young talent for the future, this could be a team that competes for an NFC East title in the coming years.
Surprisingly then, Head Coach Ron Rivera revealed on Wednesday that the organization isn't guaranteed to pick up the 5th year option on young star defensive end Chase Young, who was limited to just 3 games in 2022 as he recovered from an ACL injury.
Given his recent injury history, this is an understandable move, but when healthy, Young can be one of the most impactful defenders in the NFL, and if the team don't pick up his option, there's a chance they could lose out on him altogether, which wouldn't be a good thing for this franchise. The #Commanders aren’t guaranteed to pick up DE Chase Young’s $17.4M dollar fifth year option, via @michaelpRTD
