Washington Commanders Head Coach Makes Statement On Starting QB For 2023
The Washington Commanders have started the 2023 off-season on the right foot, bringing in Eric Bieniemy as their Offensive Coordinator/Assistant Head Coach, and now they look forward to putting some big time weapons around their young QB Sam Howell.
A few weeks ago, it was reported that Howell would be their starter in Week 1, and they were pitching themselves to Offensive Coordinators under that belief, but today, Ron Rivera has clarified that stance, saying he's QB1 heading into the off-season, but not locked in as their starting Quarterback for Week 1.
Howell was a fifth round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, and showed great progression throughout the season, starting their final game, and unless the Commanders go out and get a veteran QB that's ready to start now, it still appears he will be QB1 when the season kicks off.#Commanders coach Ron Rivera just said that QB Sam Howell is *not* the starter next season.

He says he's simply entering the off-season as QB1 and will compete.
