NFL Rumors: San Francisco 49ers Linked to Veteran QB

The San Francisco 49ers were dealt brutal injury news when it was announced that Brock Purdy has a torn UCL. With that, it has been confirmed that Jimmy Garoppolo will not be back for them in 2023, so they are expected to browse the QB market elsewhere. As a result, there are rumblings that they are considering veteran Matt Ryan as a backup option.

Ryan would provide the 49ers with another potential option as they gear up for next season. With Trey Lance being a young quarterback, it would not be a bad thing for the 49ers to bring in a grizzled veteran like Ryan to help mentor him. The same can of course be said for Purdy.

Although Ryan's days of being a starting QB are over, there still could be some value there having him as a backup. Alas, let's see if the 49ers end up bringing him in from here.
