Houston Texans Could Target San Francisco 49ers Secondary Coach
The San Francisco 49ers are becoming victims of their own success. Per KPRC2's Aaron Wilson, defensive passing game specialist/secondary coach Cory Undlin has allowed his contract to expire, allowing him to pursue jobs at any level on other teams.
When under contract, coaches are only allowed to leave their current teams via promotion. Undlin doesn't appear to have an opportunity for defensive coordinator lined up, but he'll at least be able to create some completion for his services.#49ers defensive passing game specialist-secondary coach Cory Undlin's contract has expired and he is free to pursue jobs below coordinator level, including #Texans staff position, per league sources. @KPRC2 https://t.co/HMLNMxBe8V

Former San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans recently took over as head coach of the Houston Texans, so Undlin could follow his old boss to a new franchise. Given the success of the 49ers in recent years relative to the Texans, it's hard to see why that would be particularly appealing. Perhaps Undlin cherishes his relationship with Ryans or sees a clearer path to an eventual defensive coordinator position with the Texans.
