San Francisco 49ers Request To Interview Veteran Defensive Coach For DC Role

On the day that the San Francisco 49ers see their Defensive Coordinator takes the Head Coach job in Houston, they're already organizing several interviews, and with such a talented group on the defensive side of the ball, it likely isn't going to take much to find a replacement.

They've got their eyes on several coaches, but few are more exciting hires than former Panthers Interim Head Coach Steve Wilks, and today, the team officially requested to interview him, as he remains under contract in Carolina.

The #49ers requested permission to speak to Steve Wilks for their defensive coordinator position, source says. He’s still under contract with the #Panthers.

The 53-year old has been an NFL defensive coach since 2006, with two stints as Head Coach (or Interim), and while he would be disappointed to miss out on the permanent Head Coach role in Carolina, this would certainly be a great secondary prize.
