NFL Rumors: Indianapolis Colts Won't Pursue Las Vegas Raiders QB Carr
The Indianapolis Colts have apparently had their fill of veteran quarterback trades. The Athletic's Zak Keefer emphatically shot down the possibility of the team pursuing Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr.
The Colts have acquired veteran quarterbacks in consecutive offseasons to increasingly disappointing results. The team traded for Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz prior to the 2021 season, resulting in a 9-8 record and a particularly humiliating 26-11 season finale against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Colts jettisoned Wentz and nabbed Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan in the 2022 offseason. They finished the season 4-12-1 and 30th in scoring.Since some are still asking, no, the Colts are **not** trading for Derek Carr https://t.co/LZ5ETa5cQQ

The Raiders are all but certain to move on from Carr, but the Colts seem appropriately skeptical of their chances of transforming into an instant contender by adding him. That isn't all on Carr, just like all the Colts' problems this season weren't on Ryan: backups Nick Foles and Sam Ehlinger started five games and were much, much worse than Ryan, combining for 797 yards, seven interceptions, and an abysmal 4.02 net yards per passing attempt. The Colts need to focus on building a team that can support a quarterback.
