New York Jets May Cut Wide Receiver Corey Davis
The New York Jets may be ready to move on from one of their prize free-agent acquisitions of 2021. According to the Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt, the team may consider parting ways with wide receiver Corey Davis.
Davis signed with the Jets ahead of the 2021 season on a three-year, $37.5 million deal after four years with the Tennessee Titans. Unfortunately, he hasn't quite lived up to his billing as a top wide receiver: he has totalled 1028 yards in 22 appearances with the team over two seasons. If the #Jets play their cards right this offseason, they can put themselves in position to be legit contenders in 2023.

I came up with a to-do list for the #Jets: The OC search, trade for Derek Carr, free agency, cap casualties and more: https://t.co/nJ8p0B8Ekc
Cutting Davis would save the Jets a substantial $10.5 million on the cap. Per overthecap.com, the team currently sits at approximately $2.5 million over the projected 2023 salary cap limit of $225 million. However, the Jets aren't exactly swimming with talent on offense: they finished 29th in points scored in 2022. At the rate wide receiver salaries are exploding, the Jets may struggle to find an upgrade at a similar cost in free agency.
If the Jets intend to pursue a veteran quarterback (like Aaron Rodgers, for instance), they'll have to present as tantalizing a roster as possible. Whether or not that includes Corey Davis is up for debate.
