The surgery was on Herbert's non-throwing shoulder, and he is expected to be cleared for offseason activities. He first popped up on the Chargers' injury report with a shoulder injury following their Week 17 31-10 win over the Los Angeles Rams.
Herbert is coming off a disappointing Wildcard Round playoff exit in which the Chargers built a 27-0 lead over the Jacksonville Jaguars only to eventually lose 31-30. He netted 253 passing yards on 46 dropbacks and generally failed to create opportunities once the Jaguars stopped turning the ball over. For the season, the Chargers finished 13th in scoring, a major step back from their fifth overall finish in 2021.
The Chargers' struggles weren't all on Herbert: top pass catchers Keenan Allen and Mike Williams missed a combined 11 games. Hopefully, the trio will have a healthy offseason and return to form in the 2023 season.
