Ryan’s schedule is jammed. He will start his HC interviews Thursday with the Broncos, and is expected to meet with Colts, Texans and Cardinals before Sunday’s playoff game.
Ryans took over as the 49ers' defensive coordinator in 2021. They allowed the ninth-fewest points and the third-fewest yards in the league in his debut season before climbing to the top spot in both categories this year. Ryan also earned two Pro Bowls and a Defensive Rookie of the Year award in 10 seasons as a linebacker for the Houston Texans and Philadelphia Eagles from 2006 to 2015.
Ryan has the success as a coach and the credentials as a player to provide ideal leadership to a rebuilding organization like the Colts. He also has familiarity in the AFC South from his days as a star linebacker. At only 38 years old, he could provide a great long-term solution at head coach for any NFL franchise. Unfortunately for the Colts, they'll be competing with the Denver Broncos, Houston Texans, and Arizona Cardinals for his services.
