Update: Tennesse Titans to Start QB Dobbs on TNF
The Tennessee Titans will start their third quarterback this season against the Dallas Cowboys tonight in the first game of Week 17. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero report Joshua Dobbs will get the nod for Thursday Night Football.
Dobbs joined the Titans a little over a week ago after being released by the Cleveland Browns. He was drafted 135th overall by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2017. He has completed 10 of his 17 pass attempts for 45 yards and one interception in his career. Tonight will mark his first start in the pros.Joshua Dobbs to start at QB for Titans in Week 17. Dobbs earning the top role for Thursday Night Football's game against the Cowboys is a startling turn of events and arguably a troubling condemnation of rookie quarterback Malik Willis. Willis has admittedly been ineffective in relief of top quarterback Ryan Tannehill, netting a mere 227 passing yards on 71 dropbacks while throwing three interceptions. If the Titans truly believe Dobbs gives them a better chance to win tonight, it doesn't bode well for Willis' future with the team.
At 7-8, the Titans are still in the running for the AFC South crown. Even with a loss tonight, they can clinch the division with a Week 18 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
