The move opens up a 21-day window for Cephus to be evaluated in practice before the Lions have to add him back to the active roster.
For his career, the twenty-four-year-old has 37 catches for 568 yards and four touchdowns over 22 game played. Cephus is a former fifth-round pick by the Lions in the 2020 NFL Draft.
