Houston Texans Cornerback to Miss Week 13
The Houston Texans will be without the jewel of their 2022 draft class for at least one more week. Cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. missed the team's Friday practice after not participating Wednesday or Thursday, leaving him unlikely to play in the team's Week 13 matchup against the Cleveland Browns.
Stingley has been unavailable since injuring his hamstring in the Texans' Week 10 24-16 loss to the New York Giants. He had totalled 43 tackles, five pass breakups, and one interception in nine appearances this year.CB Derek Stingley Jr. is not practicing again today as he continues to deal with the hamstring injury. At 1-9-1, the Texans don't have much to gain from rushing their young cornerback back to action. Though the team may hope to put its best foot forward this week as they welcome back their estranged quarterback Deshaun Watson in his debut with the Browns, Stingley's long-term health should be a much higher priority than increasing any slim chance at an ultimately meaningless win.
Stingley joined the Texans as their third overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft after three years at LSU. Stingley burst onto the scene as an 18-year-old freshman with the Tigers, nabbing an amazing six interceptions and 15 pass breakups over 15 appearances for the undefeated 2019 squad.
