Texans' Rookie Corner Out for Week 12
The Houston Texans will be without the prize of their 2022 NFL Draft class for at least another week. Cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. is expected to miss Week 12's matchup with the Miami Dolphins due to a lingering hamstring injury.
Stingley has been everything the Texans could hope for since being taken third overall in this year's draft. He has nabbed one interception and broken up five passes for the team this year while allowing only a 79.8 passer rating on throws in his direction.
Stingley already missed the Texans' Week 11 23-10 loss against the Washington Commanders with the ailing hamstring. He initially suffered the injury late in the team's Week 10 24-16 defeat at the hands of the New York Giants.Texans rookie corner Derek Stingley Jr. remains sidelined for Dolphins game with strained hamstring @KPRC2 https://t.co/uWaRhQgMZf

Given the Texans sport a league-worst 1-8-1 record, they have nothing to gain by jeopardizing their young star's health for any short-term gain. Their 18th-ranked scoring defense will likely suffer for his absence, but the season is already essentially a wash. If anything, the Texans might benefit from losing out for the remainder of the year and securing the 2023 NFL Draft's first overall pick. They're apparently in the market for a new young quarterback after benching starter Davis Mills.
