Mayfield and Sam Darnold, both fully healthy now, also spent time sidelined this season with high-ankle sprains.
Now that Walker is looking at a potential multi-week absence, Mayfield will assume the starting quarterback role for the first time since Week 5, though any significant struggles could lead to Darnold taking over.
In Week 9's loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, Walker was benched for Mayfield, who went on to complete 14 of 20 pass attempts for 155 yards and two touchdowns in a game that was never in reach for the Panthers.
