Panthers Declare Safety Out for Week 9
The Carolina Panthers will have to wait a little bit longer before they see their defensive leader back on the field. Interim head coach Steve Wilks declared that safety Jeremy Chinn would not be ready to return from injured reserve in time for Week 9's matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals.
Chinn injured his hamstring early in the Panthers' Week 4 26-16 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. He was eligible to return from injured reserve this week, but he'll apparently need a bit more time to recover. Whenever he's available, Chinn should provide a crucial boost to a defense that has allowed 101 total points in the four games since his departure.Steve Wilks says S Jeremy Chinn's return from his hamstring injury is "definitely not this week," but that they're eyeing/hoping he'll be able to go for next Thursday's matchup vs. Atlanta

Chinn has been a dependable and versatile cog in the Panthers defense since joining the team as their 64th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. He finished second in AP Defensive Rookie of the Year voting for his thumping play as a safety/linebacker hybrid and played on an amazing 1984 defensive snaps over his first two seasons.
