Falcons Place Offensive Lineman on Injured Reserve
The Atlanta Falcons are still within striking distance of winning the NFC South, but they'll have to manage the foreseeable future without one of their veteran offensive linemen. The team placed interior lineman Matt Hennessy on injured reserve Tuesday afternoon.
Hennessy injured his knee late in the Falcons' disappointing 20-17 Week 9 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. He was filling in at left guard for fellow offensive lineman Elijah Wilkinson, who the team placed on injured reserve following Week 8.We have made the following moves:
— Atlanta Falcons (@AtlantaFalcons) November 8, 2022
- Matt Hennessy to the IR
- Jovante Moffatt has signed to our 53-man roster
- BoPete Keyes has been released from the PS
- Quinton Bell and Jonotthan Harrison have signed to our PS
Hennessy's unavailability leaves the Falcons with some complicated shuffling to do along the offensive line. In addition to Hennessy and Wilkinson, Jalen Mayfield is also on injured reserve. Now with only seven healthy players on the roster, the team is perilously thin at offensive line.
Hennessy initially joined the Falcons as their 78th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. He played a reserve role as a rookie before inheriting the starting center job in 2021, but he was relegated to backup duties this offseason due to the ascension of Drew Dalman.
