Texans Receiver Takes Home Week 5 Community MVP
Being a player at the NFL level is amazing, and comes with plenty of perks, but for some, the biggest perk can be giving back, whether that be to the community, family or specific teammates, coaches and supporters that you've found along the way, and when highlighted, it shows just how amazing the work that some NFL players do off the field really is.
xWith this in mind, the NFL set up the weekly NFLPA Community MVP award, and the winners so far in 2022 have been Myles Garrett, Terry McClaurin, Cody Davis and Darren Waller, and for Week 5, the NFL has rightfully chosen Houston Texans rookie, John Metchie III.NFLPA’s Week 5 Community MVP is Houston Texans’ rookie wide receiver John Metchie III, who hosted his hospital family for a special evening at NRG Stadium as a thank you for its support during his battle with leukemia. pic.twitter.com/xe63afLkR2

Metchie was drafted by the Texans in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, but had to sit out his rookie campaign due to being diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukaemia, and this week, he honoured the hospital family that supported him throughout his time, with a special night hosted at NRG Stadium. Metchie is destined to do great things on and off the field in his NFL career once it finally kicks off, but this week, the NFL decided to honour his great work, awarding him with the fantastic award.
