NFL Rumors: Patriots Sign QB To Practice Squad
The New England Patriots are reportedly signing quarterback Garrett Gilbert to their practice squad, sources told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
The only healthy quarterback on the Patriot's roster as of right now is rookie fourth-rounder Bailey Zappe, as Mac Jones continues to recover from the high ankle sprain he suffered in Week Three and second stringer Brian Hoyer has been ruled due to a concussion he sustained last Sunday against the club's 27-24 loss to the Green Bay Packers.
If signed, Gilbert will return for his third stint in Foxborough. He won a Super Bowl ring during his time in the quarterback room in 2014.
Gilbert, 31, was originally drafted by the St. Louis Rams in the sixth round of the 2014 NFL Draft before being released later that summer. He has spent time with seven different NFL clubs in his 8 year career.
The Patriots are currently ranked at the bottom of the AFC East division with a record of 1-3, something NFL fans are not accustomed to seeing, especially during the "Brady era."
If the quarterback room continues to spin into disarray, the chances of a turnaround in the near future are looking slim for the Boston club.
