Despite Struggles, Broncos Veteran Remains Starter

The Denver Broncos have been one of the NFL's biggest disappointments so far in 2022, and while it's easy to blame a lot of that on Russell Wilson, and a lot of it is deserved, he isn't getting much help from the rest of this offensive group. Javonte Williams went down early in the year, but many Broncos fans were confident with veteran Melvin Gordon as the backup, but in a Week 6 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, he carried the ball just 3 times for 8 yards, and expressed clear frustration following the game.

Many believed that this would lead to Gordon being benched or cut from the team in favour of fellow veteran Latavius Murray, who took over following Gordon's struggles, but today, Head Coach Nathaniel Hackett confirmed that after talking to Gordon and with his respect for Melvin in mind, he would continue to be the teams starter.

If Denver go down to the red hot New York Jets in Week 7, you have to imagine that it will be a major sign that either some changes need to be made or players need to go, but right now, Hackett remains confident in the pieces they have. The defence has been great, but if the offence can't step up, this season is likely doomed for Denver, and if Gordon can't pick it up, there's a good chance that's exactly what will happen.
