Cardinals Sign Kicker to Practice Squad
Times are tough for the Arizona Cardinals at kicker. According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the team plans to sign recent Kansas City Chief Matt Ammendola to the practice squad while Matt Prater recovers from his hip injury.
Ammendola earned the eternal disdain of Chiefs fans when he missed a crucial 34-yard field goal attempt in the fourth quarter of the team's 20-17 Week 3 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. The Chiefs promptly cut the second-year kicker ahead of their Week 4 win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. With kicker Matt Prater battling a hip injury, the #Cardinals plan to sign Matt Ammendola to the practice squad, per source.

Another fill-in opportunity for Ammendola, who most recently took Harrison Butker’s place for a couple weeks in Kansas City.

Ammendola entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the New York Jets in 2021. He sports a middling 69.6 field goal percentage so far on his 23 attempts with a career-long of 49 yards. He likely won't prove a long-term threat to Prater's job security, who has succeeded on 83.2% of his field goal attempts over his 14-year career.
