Week 1 Preview: Houston Texans vs Indianapolis Colts
A former MVP makes his debut with a new team when the Indianapolis Colts visit the Houston Texans this Sunday. Quarterback Matt Ryan will take the field for the Colts for the first time, hoping to propel his team to glory after the Colts narrowly missed the playoffs last year. The Houston Texans, 7-point underdogs, will try to play the role of spoiler.
Meanwhile, the Texans are rolling with youth at the quarterback position. The team is holding out hope that they've struck the jackpot with second-year passer Davis Mills, 2021's 67th overall draft pick. Mills showed real promise towards the end of last season, throwing for 1258 yards and a 102.4 passer rating over his final five games. Should Mills continue his progress, he could prove the antidote for a team in desperate need of an identity ever since distancing themselves from controversial quarterback Deshaun Watson.
Ryan comes to the Colts after a 14-year career for the Atlanta Falcons that brought an NFC Conference championship and seven winning seasons to the city. But after four straight losing seasons, the Falcons decided to move on, and the Colts pounced on the opportunity to replace last year's frustrating quarterback Carson Wentz. They're banking surrounding talent was the problem in Atlanta rather than Ryan himself, and hope a promising offensive line and All-Pro running back Jonathan Taylor can make all the difference for the 37-year-old quarterback.
