Panthers Defensive Tackle Clears Waivers And Heads To Practice Squad

The Carolina Panthers are one of the most puzzling teams ahead of the 2022/23 NFL campaign, as they have the potential to surprise a lot of people in the NFC and make a genuine Wild Card push, but with so much talent, especially in the NFC South with New Orleans and Tampa Bay, it's going to be a tough mountain to climb. The addition of Baker Mayfield and return of Christian McCaffrey will certainly help things but it's the defensive side of the ball, and specifically the defensive line that will help a playoff push the most.

Derrick Brown, Yetur Gross-Matos and Brian Burns lead the way, and the depth is more than solid, that's why yesterday, the team had to waive their former fifth round pick Daviyon Nixon to make room for other roster spots. Fortunately for a franchise that seems very high on him, Nixon today cleared through waivers, and will join the practice squad, meaning that despite his lack of production, the team can still keep him in the fold in hopes that he may live up to expectation over the coming years.

This is a move that will be overlooked by many, as it's definitely based on depth and future potential, but if Nixon can fulfil the promise he's shown throughout his time at Iowa and in the NFL, he could be a very solid and cheap piece for this offensive line in the years to come.
