Jets Rookie Tackle Confident Ahead Of Week 1

The New York Jets have lost not one but two starting tackles this off-season, with both Mekhi Becton and his replacement Duane Brown suffering injuries, and this has left them with veteran George Fant, who played well in 2021 on the left, and rookie Max Mitchell, a fourth-round pick to start on the right. While many would lose faith after so many injuries along the line, Fant has been great since joining the Jets, and despite being a rookie not expected to play in 2022, Mitchell has plenty of confidence, and that was on full display when talking to the media over the past few days.

When talking about his likely matchup in veteran star Calais Campbell, Mitchell had this to say: "he's got some salt to him, but nothing we can't handle. He's got some renown to him, but he's just another guy". This can be taken one of two ways; Mitchell is confident in his abilities to start his first NFL game, or he's just a rookie giving a veteran team bulletin board material, but either way, this makes Week 1 a lot more interesting for a game that already had plenty of intrigue.

Only time will tell how Mitchell steps up and handles the pressure, but one day away from his first NFL game, it's safe to say that this is definitely not how Max or the New York Jets expected Week 1 to go, and it's certainly going to be a fun one.
