Jaguars Release Linebacker Three Days After Claiming Him On Waivers

The Jacksonville Jaguars, just three days ago claimed linebacker Ty Summers from the Green Bay Packers, and today, they've waived him from the roster, and one has to wonder why such a move was made in the first place. Summers, a seventh round pick in the 2019 NFL draft has appeared in 46 games for the Packers over that stretch, including just one start, and while he's never going to be a star, he could have worked as a great depth piece and spot starter for the Jaguars.

Over his three seasons in Green Bay, Summers recorded 52 tackles and a pass defended, and at 26-years of age with plenty of talent and NFL experience, Summers will certainly find his way back onto an NFL roster somewhere in the near future.

There are plenty of playoff ready teams out there that could use depth at the linebacker spot (Buffalo, Las Vegas, Denver), and given that Summers would come relatively cheap, his NFL days certainly aren't over, so he should find a practice squad somewhere and work his way onto a roster. For now though, the up and down journey for the former TCU standout continues, and if he works hard, he's good enough to contribute to a very good team in the future.
