Colts Sign Two Kickers, Plan To Play One On Sunday

The Indianapolis Colts came away from their Week 1 matchup against division rivals the Houston Texans with a draw, but given the chances that they had, there's no way they should have left Houston without a victory. As a result, the team waived Rodrigo Blankenship today, who has been their kicker the past two seasons, making 43 of a possible 51 field goals, and after another miss in Week 1, the team decided it was time to move on.

As a result, they've signed two familiar kickers to their practice squad, Chase McLaughlin, who was with the team in 2019 and Lucas Havrisik, who was in rookie camp this past off-season, with the plan to elevate one of them before their next divisional matchup on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

McLaughlin went un-drafted back in 2019, and has since been with 8 teams, struggling to find his place, and Havrisik who has made 34 of 53 kicks in his five years at Arizona, so it's safe to say that neither option has much experience of success at the NFL level. Either way, Indianapolis felt like it was time to move on from Blankenship, and if they are to take the AFC South like many expect in 2022, one of these two will need to step up and make this role theirs.
