New York Jets Release Young Tackle

The New York Jets have massively improved their offensive line over the past few seasons, but along the way, they've made some questionable decisions, and today, one of the draft picks from Joe Douglas' first in charge has been released from the team, after they couldn't come to terms on a trade for Chuma Edoga. Edoga was drafted to be a future tackle to protect his former USC teammate Sam Darnold, but unfortunately, he just wasn't able to adjust enough at the NFL level.

As a depth piece, Edoga could be valuable to another franchise down the road, but right now, the Jets are looking to protect the most important asset they've had in years in Zach Wilson, and it just made no sense to keep him if he wouldn't be doing much. The Jets haven't had much luck with young tackles over the year, and although Edoga had plenty of potential, he just couldn't fulfil it all in New York.

Sometimes, things just don't work out, but with good size and athleticism, Edoga could potentially find work somewhere in the NFL, but until he improves plenty, it won't be in a starting role anytime soon.
