Chargers Sign Star Safety to Record Deal
The deal makes him the highest-paid safety in NFL history.
The Los Angeles Chargers are signing safety Derwin James to a four-year extension, worth $19.1 million annually, including $42 million guaranteed.

The safety is only twenty-six years old and has already earned two 1st-Team All-Pro selections.
Minkah Fitzpatrick was the former highest-paid safety in the NFL, earning $18.4 million annually.

James will now practice after he had been holding in due to contract talks. The $29 million he receives in year one is also a record.
