NFL Rumors: 49ers Trading Jimmy Garoppolo
The San Francisco 49ers have provided quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo with permission to seek a trade as they have no long term plans for him to stay in San Fran. ESPN's Adam Schefter was first to report the news as the 49ers are handing over the keys to young QB Trey Lance.
As per reports:
Garoppolo has been a subject of trade speculation since the offseason began, but a shoulder surgery left the signal-caller in limbo. He was expected to be involved in the flurry of quarterback movement in March, but 49ers general manager John Lynch said his injury caused interested teams to look elsewhere. Despite stalled trade talks, Lynch said he doesn't plan to cut Garoppolo. The 30-year-old has been cleared to start practicing as the 49ers prepare for the start of training camp next week
If only he could have stayed on the field, Garoppolo may still be the starter as he owns an impressive 31-14 record as a starter with the 49ers, the issue has been he's missed 25 games since 2018.
A team to watch for would be the Seattle Seahawks, who aren't dead set on the QB options at the moment. The Cleveland Browns once had interest, but that's apparently sailed. Garoppolo has one year left on his deal, paying him $26.9 million against the cap.
