DK Metcalf Not Present at Seahawks Mandatory Minicamp

Star wide receiver DK Metcalf was not present at the Seattle Seahawks' mandatory minicamp today. The 24-year-old underwent foot surgery this offseason and is still rehabbing at a facility in Los Angeles, California. Despite that, his presence at the minicamp was still expected.

His absence hints that there are some behind-the-scenes disagreements between Metcalf and the Seahawks regarding his contract extension. This season, Metcalf will enter the final months of his four-year $4.5 million contract with the Seahawks.

Needless to say, Metcalf expects a hefty pay raise before his contract expires in 2023. In all three seasons of his NFL career, Metcalf has either surpassed or come close to recording 1,000 receiving yards. 2020 was by far his best season as he racked up 1,303 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns. His numbers were down last year as he only managed 967 receiving yards, but he surpassed his previous touchdown total with 12.

Metcalf's value is up there with the league's elite receivers. The Miami Dolphins are paying Tyreek Hill $30 million a year, and the Las Vegas Raiders are paying Davante Adams $28 million a year. Somebody will pay Metcalf. It remains to be seen if that somebody will be the Seahawks or another team. If he can not come to an agreement with Seattle, they will most likely trade him to spin some kind of return.
